Talents are acquired skills by the Captain. Each piece of equipment requires experience to bring its full potential to bear against your opponents. You can unlock “Talents” by reaching Captain level 4. 

Each piece of equipment has a talent associated with it; therefore, the higher the talent level, the more proficient you are with that piece of equipment.

Reaching a higher talent level on equipment will require your Captain Level to be high enough. Therefore, if you are suddenly unable to train talent for a piece of equipment, and a notification, for example, ‘Captain Level 5 for training’ is displayed, you will be able to train the talent for such equipment only after meeting this requirement. You can meet this requirement by simply playing the game.
