With V5, we are making a big change to Sonic Blitz's battles. It's a big update to the game's core mechanic, so we felt compelled to explain some of the motivations behind this change.

For everyone in the studio, Sonic Blitz has always been about highlighting all the wonderful animated 3D characters from the Sonic Universe. We've been working towards a battle system that makes them stand out and gives them more screen time. Game modes that give them more motion, more battling, and ultimately, more action. We believe that the latest update delivers on all of this.

We also know that many of you folks who hang around and play Blitz regularly fully understand and love the interplay and trickery of dashing. Trust us, we do too. That's the reason why the first iteration of Blitz focused heavily on that. However, we also wanted the battles to be faster, more focused on the 3D characters, and more streamlined, while leaving room for tactical play and deception. (GIF of new gameplay?)

With all this in mind, we have reached Core Gameplay 2.0 and redesigned ALL the cards to fit the single lane mode. The One Lane gameplay has allowed us to refresh old mechanics and squeeze in a few new abilities. Some cards were immediately a great match for CG 2.0 - looking at you, King Boom Boo. Others needed a lot of revision, and in some cases, a full update to fit the single lane battles. We were pretty excited about this challenge, and we hope that shines through in the designs. (tease new cool card - Amy? and/or Eggman?)

What does this mean for you, the players? Well, hopefully, you too will feel the excitement of a faster, more action-oriented game and realize there are still plenty of opportunities for strategic play as you familiarize yourself with the updated cards.

And what about the future? Will we try out something completely new and wild next month? Yes and no, but we promise to stick to many of the concepts we introduced with this update, while further pursuing action, fast battles, and fun gameplay.
